Sidari

Sidari is the most famous tourist resort at the North Coast of Corfu Greece, and one of the places that every visitor of the island has to see. The distance of Corfu town and the airport it’s about 40 km and the drive time you need to get there, its about 45 minutes. It used to be a small fishing village when in the early 80’s it became a popular tourist destination. Every year from than it was growing bigger and bigger. Today it is a large commercial resort that can offer accommodation to 14.000 people!

Sidari is certainly for those looking for a popular lively place with plenty of clubs, music bars and pubs, that offering a great nightlife!

You will find entertainment from hypnotists to magicians, drag act, Elvis nights, quizzes, bingo, karaoke, films on big screens, and football of course! If that is not your scene and you just want a nice meal and quiet drink you will be able to find this too. Also cafes, fast foods, restaurants and local taverns, offering Greek, British, Mexican, Indian, Italian and international cuisine, as well plenty of tourist shops that open until late.

The Sidari main beach has been awarded with the Blue Flag ! There are several little bays with small beaches around the area of Sidari and Peroulades. The landscape with the soft rock erosion is very interesting and several little bays around Sidari offer small swimming spaces for large crowds. The best part of Sidari beach is the variety of water sports and activities that are available. Water skiing, banana boat rides, paragliding, parasailing, boat and speed boat hire, pedal-boat hire, and scuba diving are available on all three beaches for reasonable prices.

One of the best swimming spot is the beach of Apotripiti in Melitsa, the Canal d amour, as well the Sunset beach (Logas beach) in the village of Peroulades. Other Sidari beaches are found near the harbour to the east and the famous coves of the Canal D’Amour to the west. These beaches are of unrivalled beauty! There are rock formations of a particularly striking nature which form a huge number of tiny coves and narrow channels.

One of them, of distinctive beauty is called: ‘’Channel of love’’ or Canal d’ amour! An area of eroding sandstone cliffs that have formed several tiny sand and shingle coves reached by paths and even ladders. The tradition says that anyone who manages to swim right along it will soon meet the partner of his or her dreams. This point is recommended for diving. There are many caves under the canal. Though it is spectacular to look at, attention must be given to small children, as the rocks and cliffs pose a significant danger.

Tourist could also explore fine beaches in Roda & Acharavi ( North Corfu ) and to the west of Sidari, both short drives. Also from Sidari one can go to the traditional villages of Peroulades, and Avliotes both of them are of the biggest villages in the area, and to the lovely beaches of Agios Stefanos, Arillas  and Agios Georgios Pagon. Another excursion that one can take from Sidari, is to Diapontia islands of Mathraki, Othoni and Ericousa which are around 7 miles from the mainland.

In overall, Sidari is a fantastic and safe place to take a holiday whether it’s for singles or families, you will find something for everyone.
